I have numerous email accounts and cannot send any mails out of Windows mail.
I have disabled all my email scanning programs and have even tried the "cmd"
route, disabling it, removing my accounts, and re-adding them. Nothing seems
to be working. I have no problems getting mail, I just can't send it. Here
is an example of several messages I get.

G-Mail accounts:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Other accounts:

'(e-mail address removed)', Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:

I'm certainly not an expert with Windows Mail, but it looks to me like
you've set up your smtp servers incorrectly. Here are the instructions
for GMail:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287

For your other mail, are you running your own mail server? You have it
set to be smtpout.secureserver.net and mail.marvinmin.com. Is this
really correct for those two mail servers?

I will check out the gmail configuration. As far as the other go, the
mail.marvinmin.com wokred fine when I had Win. XP outlook express. The
other, smtpout.secureserver.net is the one I was provided with through my
hosting domain.

The Gmail configuration worked, thank you. The other however are still
causing problems.

Ok. I checked my hosting service (www.godaddy.com) and I typed it in wrong.
I should have put my incoming as smtp.secureserver.net, and the outgoing port
as 80. I answered my own question! Everything is working fine now. Thank
you for your help!

Malke already pointed out that you have the wrong settings for smtp.gmail.com
(port number 25 is incorrect).

As for the others: I don't know who your Internet connectivity provider is,
but most will not allow port 25 connections to any SMTP server but
their own.

Yes, it is frustrating that the computer doesn't know what you really
*meant* instead of what you really *typed*. ;-)

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to post back.

Please Help! I too have a Windows Mail problem. Up until a few days or maybe
a week ago there was no problem, but now I cannot send out mail, they just
sit there in the Outbox. My first problem is annoying, but this one is worse.
The first and still ongoing problem, is the deleted mail cannot be
permanently deleted. I can delete them one by one, but not all at once. I
will live with this for now, but as for my Sent mail not going out, I need
help soon please! When the Outbox is opened, there is a column for he Sent
date and this shows when they were sent, but I don't believe anything is
going out. I tried to send myself a message at two different email accounts
and neither one was received. Thanks for any help here! Looks like this new
Windows Mail is just as bad as Outlook Express in windows XP.

First thing is to remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer
if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the
product. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free
antivirus programs, but with any you have to disable email scanning. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

After that, the only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to
Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

Thanks Steve, but it did not work. I did as you said and placed everything in
a New Folder within Documents, then closed Windows mail. when I opened Windows
mail againm, there was still all messages as before with the six I have been
trying to send out still sitting there in the Outbox. When I went to the New
Folder to see what exactly was now in there. And lo and behold, a message
said that Windows could not open the items in this folder. This totally sucks
and I do not want to create a new email account somewhere else that I will
have to get online and go to that site to use email, but what else can I do.
The minute people start complaining about such things Microsoft should be on
it pronto. One other thing is, I can hook up my Camcorder to my iMac G4 and
away we go, we can import the video right off to iMovie and go from there,
but with this new laptop and Vista, I am asked for software and drivers for
the Camcorder. Those commercials on TV are so Truthful it isn't funny! This
laptop will be on Ebay shortly!

You obviously copied the directory and didn't move it. You need to
obliterate everything under that directory from which you moved everything,
if you did.

I am having TONS of problems also. I wasn't having problems when I first set
this up. It worked for a couple of weeks with no problems. Now, it takes 2
hours for mail to be sent from the Inbox. I did have McAfee and I deleted
it, but the problem was not corrected. It still takes forever for the
e-mails to go through. I have to use e-mail everyday for my job, and I can't
deal with this any longer.

Also, I have one e-mail that will not delete from my outbox. I have been
able to delete others recently, but this one has been in the outbos since
April 27th, and it is still in there. It asks me every time I open or close
Win mail in I want to send the e-mail. I choose yet, but it doesn't send and
it will not allow me to delete it. Please help!!!! :(

Going crazy!

First, uninstall anything from McAfee or Norton. Turn off any scanning of
email or EML files in any other anti-virus.
Remove your mail account and turn off WinMail.
Restart WinMail and re-enter your mail account.
Go to http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/ and follow the instructions for cleaning
up the Outbox. This will delete everything in the Outbox, so move any you
still want to send to Drafts.

This is the error I receive when I try to send email.

Subject '', Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

My ISP is Comcast and this new computer has HP Total Care advisor with a
Symantec security connection.

Please help, this is frustrating.

Thanks, Kim

Thanks for your response, but I have done what you said to do and it is not
working. I downloaded the WMUtil and it brings up the screen, but Clear
Outbox is greyed out. This is so frustrating. I don't know why there isn't
more research on new things before they come out. We depend on e-mail for
work these days, and if you can't send e-mail, then you've got MAJOR
problems. . . which is where I am right now! I have deleted McAfee and done
everything in the order I was told and it is still NOT working. I am about
to SCREAM!!!!!

That usually indicates that Winmail.exe is running and to use all
the WMUtil functions it needs to be shut down.

Start up Taskmgr by via Run>Taskmgr or Ctl-Alt-Del.

Select Applications and look for Winmail running. End it via right click.
Select Processes and look for Winmail.exe. End it via right click.

Run WMUtil again and all the buttons should be there.

Kim, read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
Then uninstall your Symantec antivirus program, reboot, and
try WinMail again. After you get your email working, you will need
to install a non-intrusive antivirus program such as the free Avast.
Whichever antivirus you select, be sure to NOT enable the email
scanning option.

From the website:

"If Windows Mail is open or if a current WinMail.exe process is running, the
Database functions are disabled, and they (the WinMail processes) must be
terminated before these features are available. (If WinMail is closed and
these buttons still remain disabled, then perform and CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and
under Processes find WinMail.exe and click on it, and then click the End
Process button.)
