I have a Dell Inspiron running Windows 2000 Professional, with a Linksys
"g" wireless card and a Linksys Access Point on the LAN.
The Access Point works fine with an IBM X40 running XP. But I am getting
some strange behavior on the Dell.
I have no problem getting a link between the AP and the wireless card. The
problem is that a few seconds after starting up the Dell, the LAN address
it must have received from my DHCP server goes away, and is replaced by
169.x.x.x . So you get to e.g. browse the internet for a few seconds, and
then it all falls apart when the correct network info disappears. I've watched
this happen by monitoring the Linksys config tool - if you open it when you
first login after a reboot, you can see the correct LAN address. Then after a
few seconds, that disappears, to be replaced with the 169.x.x.x stuff.
If someone can shed some light on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.
