I have created a Word document that will be sent out for fill-in purposes.
After designing this form I am unable to 'lock' the form via the padlock on
the Forms Toolbar. The padlock in grayed out. Now what do I do?

Which version of Word is this?

Did you use any of the tools in the Forms toolbar? Did you insert form fields
from any other source than this toolbar? Where is the cursor when you try to
protect the document? Did you ever attach a data source for mail merge to this
document?

It is Word 2003. I used the forms toolbar to insert all fields. I used no
other source. The cursor is in the body of the document. Thank you for your
help.

And you didn't this document has never been designated as any kind of mail merge
document, right? You might try displaying the mail merge toolbar and use the
left-most tool to set the document to a "Normal Word document", see if that makes
any difference.

And if you use the Tools/Protect Document command, will the "Protect" button in
that task pane work?

If not, if you create a new document, then copy/paste everything except the last
paragraph mark into it, can you protect that?

Hi, i am from czech republic + i am at work. So . . . i dont know the words in english + i dont have much time to find them so . . . I had the same problem, and ctrl + a (select all) ctrl + c (copy all) and ctrl + v (paste all) works, but dont forget to save this file like .DOT Then open this new_file.DOT and save it again like .doc or something. First copy paste will erase mistakes like forgeting to turn off (now the language/terminology problem) WORK/PLAN MODE, or something else regarding current (again the cz dude) STATE of microsoft word 2003. I hope this was usefull
