I have a HP laser Jet 1020 printer which works fine with my desktop. I
tried to install it on my new laptop with the start up disc and got
about half way through the installation when Windows said it could
not install it. Something about it not having authenticity and
continuing the install could cause problems. Both operating systems
are Windows XP. I am not sure what to do at this point.

It is generally a warning on Windows XP that the driver is not signed
as beign Windows compatible. You should however, be offered the
option to continue at this point and ignore the warning message - it
is also worthwhile checking on the HP website that you have the latest
XP drivers (beware in case the latest ones are Vista drivers)

Hi Rich- Thanks for your reply. So even if both computers are Windows
XP, there can still be a conflict? I was given the option of
continuing but was scared off by the prompt that said there could be
future problems with the computer if i did continue. What if i were to
uninstall the driver in my laptop, then re-boot, and re-install, would
that help too? I will also check out HP for an upgrade. Thanks again.

If the printer driver does not cause problems on your desktop, it
should not do so on your laptop. The reason for the warning not
showing on your desktop could be for various reasons, eg. one of the
computers has not run Windows Update (or Microsoft Update) as
recently; one has different security settings; one has not had its
"root certificates" update for some reason; or a difference in the
user settings (are you an administrator on both versions of Windows?)

It may also be linked to the order in which drivers were installed on
your desktop pc - you may need to remove any other printers / scanners
etc from the laptop, then connect the printer and reinstall any
scanner you use (if you have a separate scanner).

Hi Rich- I installed the printer by uninstalling the print spool, then
restarting it and downloading the latest update from HP. Thanks for
all your help.
