Hi all. I have noticed that many people have this problem but as this is my
first website I have had trouble understanding the solutions given! I know my
images do not show because they are on my hard drive and not 'on the web'.
But how do I get the images onto the web? I'm sure it's something simple but
it is currently beyond me.

I would be extremely grateful for any help but please reply in laymans terms!

Hi Steve and Jenny,

It's a few different steps..but not really all that difficult.

1. First you need the existence of a web. (Not just a page but a web)
2. Import any images you want to use into that web (probably into your
images folder..but it can be any other folder as well)
3. Insert any image you want to use into a page in your web and save.
4. Publish your web to the server.

Basically that's all there is to it! The key thing is to first import the
images into your web and insert them from there and not some other place on
your hard drive.

Thanks Joe and thanks also for keeping it simple. However I tried what i
think you suggested but it hasn't worked. I'll describe what i did in the
hope you'll be able to spot my obvious mistake!

My site is only one page currently but is a live site.

I dragged an image from a file on my hard drive into my images folder in my
FrontPage website. Then I inserted the image, from the images file in
FrontPage, into my design.

I then published my site. All is ok except the images themselves do not
show. They instead show as white squares with small symbols in the corners
(with a red square, a green circle and a blue triangle). I also get a few
anomolies in the copy. Wherever there is an apostophe or a £ it comes up as
something very different.

What am I doing wrong??

Thanks so much for helping.

So, you actually have created a web site then created a page in it?
You then opened the web site and dragged your image into the images folder
from Windows Explorer?
You then inserted the image on the page and save it?
With the web still open (not just the page) you then published your site,
correct?

Thanks for your input Tom.

I created a single page website. Yes I then opened the site and dragged an
image into the images folder but not from Windows Explorer, from a file on my
computer. I then inserted the image into my design from the folder. I then
saved.

I am unsure what you mean by "With the web still open (not just the page)"
because my site is just a single page and to publish I just click 'Web site'
tab in FrontPage, then 'Remote Website', 'Remote Web Site Properties' and
after putting in a username and password I can publish.

I hope you can follow this!

Thank you so much for helping with this.

Hi Steve and Jenny,

One other possibility to look for is CaSe... if you are on a Unix server. By
that I mean if you have an image that has a file name of yourimage.jpg and
you try to insert it into a page and call it YourImage.jpg or YOURIMAGE.JPG
it will not be found. Something to check into anyways.

You should be able to see this in your image editing application.

Hurrah! It works! I realised that my index file was outside the public file.
With it in it now works and so far so good with amendments. Many thanks to
Joe, Tom and Thomas for your help. I may be back with further problems but
for now THANKS!!
