I cannot empty my delete files

I keep getting the message

Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.
 
After you download it, you have to run the downloaded file.
Do you see "Windows Live Mail" in the list of All Programs?

Ok, thanks - that works on getting rid of deleted files but for whatever
reason I now have multiple duplications in my contacts. When I try to edit
contacts, or reorder them, it does not work.
 
I'm not the expert when it comes to Contacts issues.
I suggest you post this issue in the WLM newsgroup.

When I go to the site I'm confronted with an unmixable orange button
labeled "download." Pretend you are Alice in Wonderland
and the button says "drink me."
 
I downloaded from the link provided and I was able to delete my deleted
items, but my contacts are all gone. Can I get my contacts back or are they
lost for good?
 
It is customary to reply to the message that you took for action,
so we'd know exactly what you did. I'm going to take a stab in
the dark and assume that you upgraded to Windows Live Mail.
If so, with WLM open, click on Contacts (lower left corner).
With Contacts open, click on the Show Menu icon (second from
the right on the toolbar), select File, Import, then click on
"Address book for current Windows user."
