Thanks, This seemed like an extreme solution to the probelm, but I did it.
I was not comletely clear on what you wanted me to do, and I thought I could
just export the e-mail file and then re-import it after deleting the default
..pst file. Unfortunatley, when I tried to reimport the saved file, I got the
message: "The file.... is not compatible with this version of the Personal
Folders information service. Contact your adminstrator." Well, I am the
administrator and I don't have a clue what to do. Anyway, I guess I can
view this as a forced purge of all my old e-mails, and I have them on another
machine, so all is not lost. I continue to be amazed at how hard Microsoft
makes even the simplest things. I originally reinstalled Outlook becasue I
was continuously seeing that it was trying to send 7 messages, even though
the Outbox was empty. I guess this must have happend when I moved my Laptop
between different locations and ISPs. Maybe I should have solved that
problem by asking for specfic help on that, but I mistakenly thought that
simply reinstalling Outlook was the fastest path. Anyhow, thanks for the
help. I am back in business with a clean sheet.

I reinstalled MS-Office XP, Outlook 2002 SP3, and now the e-mail
rules don't run and I cannot delete them. I don't know how to fix.
If you'[re using a POP account, I believe rules are stored in the PST. It
seems reasonable to me, then, that creating a new PST, making it your
delivery location, then moving all the data in the old PST to the new, after
which you can close the old PST, would allow you to redefine rules and have
them work. Before you do this, export your rules so you can import them
after the switch if there are too many to redo by hand.
