The Edsel and Vista, and the Edsel wasn't so bad!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edsel

There is no single reason why the Edsel failed, and failed so spectacularly.
Popular culture often faults the car's styling. Consumer Reports cited poor
workmanship. Marketing experts hold the Edsel up as a supreme example of
corporate America's failure to understand the nature of the American
consumer. Business analysts cite the weak internal support for the product
inside Ford's executive offices. According to author and Edsel scholar Jan
Deutsch, the Edsel was "the wrong car at the wrong time."

I come to find out the other day when I finally got on the base after
working on this contract for the USAF for several months that base
personnel are using Vista machines. Vista is all over the place on the
base. So, I suspect that Vista is being used throughout all branches of
the military, DoD and the Pentagon, since that's one of the solutions I
am developing for them.

I also suspect that Vista is being used in the corporate environment
more than what is lead to believe by surveys, because Vista is certainly
being used in the firm I work at.

If Vista is good enough for the USAF, then I suspect it's being used
more and more.

NO Vista is not used by the Military and never was. All I can tell you is that Vista
if used by the USAF at the base you went to then this would have been either a
personal or a network between personal computer users.

Fact is Vista is not used by any branch of the USA government and that includes the
Military branches.OS used by the Military comprises of W2K, W2K3, XP and Unix
systems

All computer related use in the US Fed government is controlled through Cray
servers which are located way underground in the Pentagon. Quite a sight to see .

You DARE to question the esteemed "Jack The Ripper", aka "Mr. Arnold",
aka "The Bee", aka by least a couple dozen other nyms???

He's a .NET programmer... and he knows EVERYTHING.

how about liberal politics and the Nehru jacket.

albiet the Nehru jacket had some utility.

Now there's some statistically valid information. (not!)

Well, you should see what I am working on that has nothing to with Crey
servers, which Cray Servers has nothing to do with Windows workstations,
*cloud technology* and SOA with SOA sitting on Win 2k3 and IIS.

I and I am telling you that USAF personnel are sitting at those
computers that are running Vista when I went to get base authorization
to access the base.

I know Randy Atkins, and I have meet him personally on a couple of
occasions as he has come to the firm to meet me.

I and the team I am working with will implement new .NET technology into
the solutions along with creating new .NET solutions for the US military
all branches, the DoD and the Pentagon.

And I am being paid well to deliver "cloud technology" and SOA . :-P

The new techniques, including blogs, wikis and personal profiles, are
coming out of an initiative by Air Force Knowledge Now (AFKN), a
resource provided on the Department of Defense (DOD) intranet. They're
helping service members and civilian employees find the information they
need more quickly and are now being shared with members of the U.S.
Army, Navy and Marines, according to Randy Adkins, director of the Air
Force's Center of Excellence for Knowledge Management

BS man, because Vista is being used where I work at. Also, I have seen
posts in another NG Linux.COLA, in particular, where the poster
indicated that that there were over 200 Vista machines being used in his
organization.

I have also been on .NET contracting interviews where the decision had
been made to go to Vista.

Just because you're a frog on a log, it doesn't mean that anyone else is
on the log with you.

That's right. I know more than you do as to what I am working on for the
USAF, and what is being shared by all branches of the military, the DoD
and the Pentagon, concerning 'cloud technology' and SOA.

And I am being paid well to do so too. It's most likely 5 times your
entitlement benefits as a retiree.

And....you probably just breached your NDA.

When you actually are employed, that is. You were unemployed more
during the last year than employed.

For what? It's out there on the Internet for all to see information act,
all you have to do is use a search engine. And if it wasn't meant to be
be seen, then it wouldn't be out there on Google. There is no secret
about it.

Now, if I gave up how I was doing it, the techniques and top secret
information being passed or I went out the country with out reporting in
first, then I would be in serious trouble. :)

Old man, you don't know what I was or was not doing. You're becoming
just a little too ridiculous.

You don't know how to play the game of a contractor, and you don't know
how to play the game in real life either, because if you did know how
to play the game of life, you wouldn't be stuck out here on Usenet
everyday. Now would you?

Old man, even when I was in between contracts, I was still being paid,
stupid. I still had money coming in.

I had to pay that $400 a month Cobra, which $400 out of your pockets,
and you're eating cat food. :)

I forgot... if you're paid so well, then surely you should be able to
squirrel some away to help out when you're without work. Why were you
kiting checks at gas stations to keep afloat while awaiting your
unemployment benefits check last year?

Remember: I have your posts to that effect.

Stupid, as a contractor one save 3 months of all ones bills. I learned
that from a contractor back in the early 80's when I first started
contracting.

Stupid old man, my lowest hourly rate is $45 an hour. That's the lowest
I'll work for. It's usually $55 to $60 an hour.

When I do go collect employment, which I can do as a contractor paying
W2, it's going to be based on the hourly rate.
Remember: I have your posts to that effect.

Old man, like I really care what you got or what you do with it. Old
man, you don't have a life. It's obvious. So you'll do anything to
excite yourself at the monitor, keyboard, mouse and beat your meat.

Not only are you a sick lonely old man, but you have lost it and you
make me laugh that you are so pathetic and lonely. :-P

So the government will pay you, as a contractor, on a W2 ?

Yeah, right.

DanS said:

Yeah, right.

No stupid, the firm I work for pays me, stupid. The government pays the
firm.

I could work on a 1099, but those are firms that have home offices based
out of India or some other country, and that would mean that I would
have to be incorporated and pay the taxes quarterly.

But instead, I let the firm take city, state and federal because their
was a crack-down on independent programming contractors back in the
early 90's. It was on US based firms that hired the contractors, which
was done by the IRS. Many contractors were taking the money and paying
no taxes. And all of that was stopped by IRS.

So, all firms based in the US must do the W2 and take the taxes. It just
so happens that the firm I work for hired me as a full-time employee
contractor, which the firm is giving 40 hours of persoanl time, 80
hours of vacation time, health benefits, company 401k and bonus at the
end of the year.

I got a nice little bonus-check at the xmas-2008 party, after starting
with the firm in 11/2008.

The contract is up for renewal this 7/2009, and the president doesn't
see any problems with getting the new contract, which last for another 5
years.

You don't know what you're talking about nor do you know how things
work. So you should just shut-up and don't come to me with your
ignorance and nonsense on how you think things work.

You're on the outside and not even looking in. :)

Then, stupid, you're not a contractor, your an EMPLOYEE, stupid.

DanS said:

Stupid, you don't know what you are talking about. You don't know. I a
classified in that firm as contractor. It's beyond your capabilities to
know how things work when it comes to contracting or a company that
works federal contracts.

Go away man, you're too stupid, and you can't tell me what is happening
in that firm.

All DanS knows is what his boss at Taco-Bell tells him. Dan, get the mop
and clean the floor. Dan, pick up the trash. Dan, stop rubbing yourself.
There are customers in the restaurant. Dan, a Soft taco and a Hard taco are
two different products.
