I am having a big problem with PowerPoint. When in "Normal View" All images
or lines I insert do not show for editing. If I go to SlideShow, I can see
them there, but when I come back to Normal View, they just don't show up.

A number of questions come to mind, and the answers will help us help you:
1. What version of PowerPoint? What is the latest Service Pack applied?
2. Does this happen when viewing all presentations, of is it just happening
with one presentation file?
3. Was the presentation created on this machine, with the version of PowerPoint
that you are viewing it in?
3. When did it start?
4. Have you ensured that you have the most recent driver available for your
video card?

1. What version of PowerPoint? What is the latest Service Pack applied?
MS Office 2003 - PowerPoint 2003, Windows XP SP2 installed, MS Office 2003
SP 1 installed.
2. Does this happen when viewing all presentations, of is it just happening
with one presentation file? All presentations, old and new.
3. Was the presentation created on this machine, with the version of
PowerPoint
that you are viewing it in? Yes most of them were and were working properly
until a couple of days ago
3. When did it start? About 3 days ago
4. Have you ensured that you have the most recent driver available for your
video card? Yes I do.

Thank you for answering the questions so thoroughly. That will definitely help.
All we have to do is figure out what happened three days ago and reverse it.

I would guess that this didn't begin happening in the middle of a session with
PowerPoint, but if it did, that is key information, so please let us know.

Can you remember if and what you installed several days ago? Have you tried
restoring the system to 3 days ago using System Restore? Go to Start > Help and
Support, you should look for an item under Pick a Task that says "Undo changes
to your computer with System Restore. At this point you don't want to actually
do a Restore, but it will be helpful if you look to see what restore points have
been taken since just before your problem occurred.

So, click on "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore". On the next
screen, leave Restore my computer set and click on Next. You'll see a calendar.
Any date that is in bold means there was a checkpoint taken on that date. Click
on yesterday, and then the day before that, and you'll see more details about
the reason for the checkpoint. Do you see any that were taken when something
was installed or removed from your system? If so, what was installed?

Hello Sonia, I have tried to do what you suggested and I get the follwing
message "There are currently no restore points available".
If I try clicking the month back to September, it will not move, so I assume
there are no restore points, period. Not just for October, but none saved.

I wonder what might be going on. I do not remember if this problem showed up
during a session or if it was in a new one. I only remember trying to put a
border in a square and not seeing it. The next thing I noticed, was that if I
inserted a picture, it would not show either.

I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing PowerPoint, but the
problem is still there.

I hope you can help me out here, because I do rely a lot on PPT for my work.

Regards.

You might want to set System Restore on and have it monitor all of your hard
drives. It has saved my neck many times!

I can't think of what might be causing your problem. Try turning hardware
acceleration off.

What software have you recently installed? That might give us some clue.

Also, what are the characteristics of the presentations you are testing? Are
they very large?

Do all of the slides show up as blank and white, or do you use a background and
can it be seen? Are all objects gone, or do some display? If so, is there a
pattern to what is displayed? Is it only newly added objects that don't
display?

The strangest thing just happened. I uninstalled Norton Antivirus, because I
am switching to McAfee . I exchanged AV software, and now my PPT is working
fine. I don't understand what these two things have to do with each other,
however that is what happened.

Thank you for your help.

Regards.

It's not the first time there's been a problem with NAV, although the problems
have never resembled yours. I'm curious whether you know if you had the NAV
Office Plug-in activated? Info at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00387.htm. You may want to read through that
in case the uninstall wasn't totally clean and a problem reappears.
