I bought a computer but can not access the admin account? i contacted the
people that sold me the computer and they said that windows XP automatically
passwords it and told me what to type in to access the admin account but
nothing has worked. What shall I do?

Windows does not "automatically password" any account.

If the people who sold you the computer won't give you the correct
password for their administrator account - I would be very suspicious
about this computer - then you'll have to boot to Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode you'll see the computer's built-in administrator account at
the Welcome scree. It's called simply 'Administrator'. You can log in to
this account - it has no password - and use it to reset the password of
their old administrator account, or simply delete their old account and
create a new account for yourself with administrator permissions.

If the former owners password-protected the built-in Administrator
account you are permanently locked out of administrator permissions. In
that case, I would ask for my money back. Your only other choice is to
buy a copy of Windows XP and do a clean install.

When you buy a second-hand computer, it is best practice to do a
clean-install of Windows. Here are links that will show you how to do
this and what you will need on hand:

http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Reinstalling_Windows

Please read the second link to see what items you should have received
from the sellers.

Now, to more directly address your problem. Windows XP does not
"automatically password" a user account. The default password for the
built-in Administrator account is a blank. Any other passwords were
assigned by the humans using the computer. Here is information about
accessing that account:

In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe Mode. Do this by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up. This will get you to
the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not
work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden
Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen,
do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up
Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or
have Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the
built-in Administrator account's password to a blank.

Then go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords
that you will remember and make other desired changes.

However if the sellers really told you that XP automatically passwords
accounts, the smartest and safest thing for you to do is to format the
drive and clean-install.

They either lied or just have no idea what they are talking about. Without
modification of the Windows XP CD )or other installation media) - there is
no "automatic password assignment" built into the Windows XP install.

If this was a used computer - you should format it and reinstall from
scratch. Make sure you have everything you need to do so (application
installation media, serial/cd-key numbers, etc.) You have no idea what all
the previous owners did/put on/planned to do with that computer. Better to
start with a clean slate.

If this was a new computer - I'd reconsider ever buying another computer
from where ever it is you bought it. I might even suggest - if you can -
returning it. You bought it from incompetent people. If you have trouble
in the future - they will be of no help. Get out while you can.

Last - you can create a CD and try hacking the administrator accounts...

Hack your password:

"...you can create a CD and try hacking the administrator accounts..."

Please...computer professionals do not 'hack'. They 'investigate and
make adjustments as needed'.

;-)

if your account have administrative privileges, try to reset the
administrator password, is very simple, [it's your copy of windows legal??]
windows NEVER put or generate PASSWORDS.
