i can get to my pictures but can't open them

I am using windows xp home edition. was deleting some material from the hard drive and now I can not veiw my pictures. It tells me that it can not find them, any ideas on how to bring them back after being deleted.
 
When you delete a file it goes to the Recycle bin.
Look on your desktop for an icon, usually at the top left of the screen. The
name may be recycle bin or Norton Protected files. Right click on it and
open it and check if the files are there. If so, select them and click on
Restore.
