Good day everyone

I have been studying access and have worked how to make databases and other
items. I would like to answer people’s questions. What qualifications do I
need to be able to answer questions?

I have read the topic concerning MVP’s and how if you answer 500 questions
you have a gold circle after your name. But I have counted for some days and
many people who answer many questions do not have any circles, not even
bronze or silver even though some of them do have enough answers to entitle
them to a coloured circle. Could anyone tell me who awards these circles and
why some people do not have them if they have answered sufficient questions?
The site says you will get circles if you answer an amount of questions but
if this is so, then the site must be in error as some people have more than
enough and not recognition?

And how can I answer some questions if I don’t have any circles. This is
all very confusing to me.

I hope that you will allow me to answer questions and I need to study more
for school and this is good way to do this but like I said what
qualifications do I need to get the coloured circle so for people to trust my
answers.

I have looked at Mr Rick B, Mr Joseph Meehan, Mr Wayne I M, Mr Kingston via
AccessMonster, Mr Ron 2006, and all these people have answered many questions
but have no MVP or coloured circle and they are allowed to answer questions
and they all know how to make computer codes that I have test to make sure
they are correct and they are.

Thank you to you all

Harish

you answer questions by clicking on the reply button!
your total number of answered questions is not based on how many replies you
write, it is based on how many replies have been accepted by the person
sending the question as answering the question. (these are the ones with the
green ticks beside them).

If you know the answer you can reply to a question. I'm unfamiliar with
gold circles or any other kind of marks in this forum, although I have seen
such things in other forums. MVPs are invited to become MVPs, as I
understand it, but I will leave it to others to explain the details.

I know only a fraction of what some of the guys on this forum know. I just
answer the few questions that I can to take some of the load off of their
shoulders, and to get and answer back to the enquirers as soon as possible.
The only circles I have are around my eyes.

This is a peer-support forum, and anyone may answer any question. If
you're using the web to view the forum, then in order to post a reply,
you must sign in using a Windows Live ID or "Passport". Underlying the
web forum are "newsgroups", based on the NNTP protocol, which allows
anyone with a newsreader program (such as Outlook Express, or Forté
Agent) to post articles and answers as well, without logging in.

Many people who post heavily -- me, for example -- use a newsreader
program instead of a web browser to read and post to these discussion
groups, because it's a lot faster. However, it's the web sign-in
process that enables the little badges to be placed next to users'
names, because that's how the web server knows who they really are.
People who don't post using the web interface won't get those badges by
their replies. I'm an MVP, for example, but I don't think you'll see a
badge next to my name, because I'm not posting via the web interface.

The title "MVP" (Most Valuable Professional) is bestowed by Microsoft
annually on individuals who have demonstrated expertise in a Microsoft
product and "who actively participate in online and offline communities
to share their knowledge and expertise with other Microsoft customers."
For more information, see this link (where I got that quote):

I don't know about everyone but I am not a MVP. I am not sure of how
one would go about becoming one. I have no desire to do so as it appears
the title indicates a certain level of general understanding of Access that
I do not possess. I do attempt to answer those questions that I have some
experience in. I do so to repay the world in my limited way for all the
help I have received over the years. In doing so I find I learn more myself
so it is self rewarding.

You need a knowledge of the subject, a desire to help people work through
their problems, patience, the ability to write clearly and free time (or a
boss who doesn't care what you do on company time).
Could anyone tell me who awards these circles
Microsoft.

and
why some people do not have them if they have answered sufficient questions?

I think you have to tell Microsoft you've earned enough and they'll verify it
before they'll add the circle to your name. Maybe you have to submit proof
and some people just haven't done that yet. Ask someone who has a circle.
And how can I answer some questions if I don’t have any circles.

Hon, no one gets a free lunch. (Ok maybe if you're the son of a former US
president you can but the rest of us don't.) No one starts off with circles.
Answer questions correctly and people will see you give correct answers, even
if you don't have a circle and you aren't an MVP.
I hope that you will allow me to answer questions and I need to study more
for school and this is good way to do this

Go ahead and answer questions. You learn a subject faster by researching and
answering other people's questions. If you want to learn even faster, read
other people's answers to questions, whether you think you know the answer or
not. You'll get a much wider perspective and you'll be able to pick out
which replies you should read first based on *who* wrote it.

Even if you only know a little *something* about a question that may be
helpful you can reply, but say so in your reply. Read this for tips:

I thank you all for you gracious answer to me questions. I like you all for
this kindness

My understanding is that it's based on how many responses by that person are
marked as Helpful by others, so it's the participants in the newsgroups who
award them, not Microsoft.

There's no need to argue here but here's how I see it. Microsoft owns the
court and the ball. If Microsoft tore down the court and took its ball and
went home *nobody* would be awarded those colored circles
designed/produced/hosted/copyrighted by Microsoft. If we leave Microsoft out
of the equation we also leave their colored circles out of the equation too.

Microsoft does not disclose the details, but have published some general
information on the subject at http://mvp.support.microsoft.com.

I don't know any Access MVPs who answered questions with the _intent_ of
becoming an MVP. Most of us were surprised when we received the
invitation -- I know that I was.
I have no desire to do so as it appears the

No, I don't think the MVP designation indicates any particular level of
knowledge about the product, just a demonstrated willingness and ability to
be helpful. AFAIK, you can be sufficiently helpful to members of the
Microsoft user community by answering a good many simple, novice-or-casual
user level of question.
I do attempt to answer those questions that I have
some experience in. I do so to repay the world in
my limited way for all the help I have received over
the years. In doing so I find I learn more myself
so it is self rewarding.

My sentiments, exactly.
