I got a new Sony Digital Camera - DSC P92. It's a Plug
and Play ... but the instructions were rather confusing
and when I plugged it in to upload photos the camera was
set to USB instead of PTP (because I have Windows XP).

When the Wizard couldn't install it I went ahead and used
the disk that comes with it, assuming I needed the driver
after all. WRONG!

By the time I realized that I needed to put the controls
to PTP, the computer already recognizes my camera as
a "failed device" and will NOT run the AutoPlay wizard to
install it!!

2 problems:

1) How do I get Windows XP to IGNORE the device and
recognize it as a new device and run the wizard????

2) When I run the wizard MANUALLY to install a new
camera, Sony is not listed and doesn't give me the option
of typing it in... also the ERROR I GET IS THIS:

"THE DATA IS INVALID"

Help?????

Can you go to Device Manager and just delete the non-working device? Then
XP should recognize a new device on startup and prompt you to reinstall.
Hope this helps.
