I Beam cursor explanation please

Thanks in advance for helping....

Q: When in a Word document, why does the cursor change to
an I-Beam with some justified lines appearing to the left
of the I-beam or below the I-beam. Also an I-beam appears
with an arrow on the top of the justified lines.

Your help is appreciated!
 
This indicates that "Click and type" is activated. Disable it on the Edit
tab of Tools | Options.

That is the Click and Type facility.
When you hover over a place in a document you can double click an
start to type anywhere. The text will be aligned the same as the line
on the cursor. If you are using XP and the arrows appear when yo
hover over the top it will be to Hide White Space. When you click it
it will hide the margin at the top of the page.

To turn on/off Click and Type choose Tools + Options + Edit tab.
