I am wondering if there is an easy way to create a replacement Primary Domain Controller

I currently run a 50 user LAN with Windows 2000 server as our PDC. The computer that is our PDC needs to be replaced. My question is what needs to be done to replace the PDC with this new server? In other words once I install win2k on the new hardware, what next besides promoting it and demoting the old PDC? I know rhis isn't really an AD question, but any help would be valueable

That is pretty much the gist. You'll want to make sure
that after promoting the new DC, you make it a Global
Catalog. Give it some time to get all replicated and then
demote the old DC (someone is bound to yell at you, there
are no "PDCs" in AD).

The demotion of the existing Win 2k DC *should* transfer the 5 FSMO roles to
the new DC.
See:

Make sure the global catalog is moved.

See:

How to: Create or Move a Global Catalog in Windows 2000

Set up DNS on the new server after you promote it to a DC and make the zone
AD integrated. That way the DNS information from your original DC gets
replicated to the new DC.

Whether you are using DHCP or manually setting client DNS entries, they need
to be changed to reflect the new servers IP address.

Change any reference to the old server to the new server in any logon
scripts that may be in place.
