I have an older Compaq laptop that I am trying to install XP Pro to. I tried
to make a slipstreamed sp2 disc using my retail install disc, and it failed
due to missing files. I loaded windows using my original disk, and it worked
fine. Now when I try to download sp2 I get and error due to to little space
on the c: partition. OK, so I tried downloading the file to my e: partition,
where I have redirected my temporary internet files as well. The file
downloads, but when it goes through decomression, I get a "File corrupt
dialog box" and the operation fails. I have tried downloading it several
times with the same result. I tried opening the file from the download
dialog box, and I get the same issue.
Can someone help here, does the Microsoft site have a bad file, or is it my
configurations of HDD space. I was trying to limit the amount of drive space
in the primary partition so I could make a simple image using Acronis for
backup.
Do I need to download and run the SP2 file from the same partition as
windows, not from a secondary? Has anyone else had a similar encounter?
