i am not getting internet even if i am connected to isp

i am using ie5,win 2oo0 prof .
my modem connects to isp but internet explorer is not
opening the search page .i tried out usng another modem
another dialup connection ,ie 6 ,with default connection
settings.i have scanned full system scan with mcafee .no
infection found .can any one help me out this without
reinstalling windows

Best guess is a DNS problem. Get the proper DNS server addresses from
your ISP and enter them in your TCP/IP settings. This can be
confirmed by trying to ping your ISP's system (mail, DNS or whatever)
by using the name, then the IP. If the IP works and the name doesn't,
that's it.

Of course, if neither work, call your ISP... :)

Hello All,

Try to telnet to your ISP ip address on port 53. If that fails try to
telnet to 4.2.2.2 on port 53 as well.
If this succeeds then you have port DNS 53 open. Are you using a firewall?
