I am a moron when it comes to computers HELP

I was told by a Compac tech that I had a bad virus. He
said I would lose all my personal files. I did what he
told me. I disconnected everything but the keyboard,
mouse and power cord. I used the Recovery C.D.

Does the XP have a way to get back My Documents folder
which was in my old programs??

I looked into how much gigbytes I have and I have 33, I
should have 40 so around 7 gigabytes are still somewhere.

As the title suggest I need help if it is possible.

You may be able to get back the data...but it may be expensive:
It is important not to do anything with the computer until a decision
is made.
Every boot and even every keystroke potentially permanently destroys
the data.
