I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2.

When I copy text -- in this case chess games, with hyphens -- 0-0 and
0-0-0 -- into the clipboard and then copy into Outlook Express or Word --
the hyphens get converted into long dashes.

Is there some way to prevent that?

Thanks.

Paste into Notepad first, copy from Notepad to Word/Outlook Express...
See if that helps...

Thanks.

I tried that and it doesn't work.

When I pasted it from the Internet to Notepad the hyphens were still
converted into long dashes.

In Word, click "Tools" on main menu, select "Autocorrect Options", select
"AutoFormat As You Type". Uncheck the box for "Hyphens (--) with dash (-)"

Yes.

I've already done that -- changed it in both _AutoFormat_ and _AutoFormat As
You Type_.

No Joy...

But thanks anyway.

Could the problem be a Tweak UI setting?

Certainly (as far as Word is concerned) this feels like spelling
auto-correction at work.

I experience the problem consistently, not just when I'm pasting into
Word -- but also when pasting into Notepad or Outlook Express....

A SINGLE [not double] hyphen is converted into a long dash.
