Hello

I have just bought a P4 2.6c for my asus P4S8X-X (with 512 DDR 2700).
When I start, bios status show that there are 2 CPU :

CPU1:*Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 1733 Mhz Processor
CPU2: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 1733 Mhz Processor

This is an incorrect frequency : it should be 2600 Mhz for each cpu.
I cannot set a value higher than 1733Mhz in bios settings and the cpu
frequency multiple is locked to 13x.

Why this motherboard cannot detect properly my cpu ?

Thank you for your help

If you check the manual for the P4S8X-X, it handles processors with
FSB400 or FSB533. There is no mention of using processors with FSB800,
as that is what a 2.6C has. 13 x 133 = 1729MHz...

If you want hyperthreading, use a 3.06GHz/FSB533 processor.

Search for your motherboard here:

Yup the P4s8x-x needs a 3ghz+ for HT
and it is 533/400 FSB. I use one here
but it's only 533 2.4. Funny tho the pc
I'm writing this on, is an 800 CPU, and
2.4 ghz (P4P800), and supports HT.

You'll think Intel wld have made the 533
CPU (from 2.4 HT compat too). Not just
the 800 FSB CPU's).
