Xeon hyperthreaded CPUs show up as two CPUs in the cpuinfo file.
So a dual Xeon machine appears as a quad processor.
In Windows, it's the same thing.
A dual Xeon will have 4 CPU charts showing in the Task Manager cpu chart.
Ok, then question.
Suppose, a quad Xeon is running W2K Server. Should the OS show 8 CPUs? It
doesn't. It shows four.
What does this mean?
Is w2k not taking advantage of the virtual 8 CPUs?
Is it, in fact, running sub-optimally ( that is, is w2k not designed for 8
CPUs so it runs sluggishly, or throws errors ) ?
Same for SQL Server 2000, Standard Edition. What is the effect of running
it on a quad Xeon machine ?
