hyperterminal problem

There was no proper section for Hyperterminal, yet it is
very critical for me to resolve this problem. Remote
computer is being accessed via modem, and it has to use
7-E-1 Advanced settings of the port. No matter what I
tried, Hyperterminal under Windows XP reverts to 8-N-1, and
spoils all communication. I have tried setting the port for
external modem, setting the modem, setting the Defaults for
the modem. I have also tried an internal modem on the
laptop. The result is the same. Before I click on 'Dial',
setting in the status bar is correct: 7-E-1, as soon as I
click Dial, it reverts to 8-N-1. I would greatly appreciate
any insight on this bug in Windows XP (the same settings
under Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000 do stay stable and allow
connecting with 7-E-1).
