Hyperterminal free edition?

Gettin' confused here. My new computer (XP) came with hypertrm 5.1
included. Thought I'd go on line and get the most recent version,
downloaded htpe6.exe. When I started to install it, the installation
box said this was the private edition. Since the company has free and
paid editions, I stopped.

The objective is to have the program so that when my grown kids visit,
they can check on their email. If 5.1 will do, then I might as well
stay with that version. Otherwise, could someone kindly clarify the
situation? Thanks.

telnet to port 110 of your isp ie,
telnet pop.freeserve.net:110

when connected issue command

use LIST to see how many messages you have and RETR X where X is the
number of the email you wish to view.
certainly possible - but no real reason (if you are going to be using
telnet) not to use putty or teraterm; also, if you really really want to
talk pop3 to something, why not use a pop3 client (like popcorn) to do it
for you?
