My hyperlinks in IE and Outlook Express have stopped working. I have
up-to-date java plugin and I have also re-registered my .dll files. I have
scanned my computer (XP)for spyware. I disable the firewall and virus
protection but nothing helps. I don't want to re-install Windows and I simply
can't understand how this happened over night!

Thanks but I couldn't find any suggestions that I haven't already tried.

Is it possible this has something to do with JAVA since alot of the
hyperlinks in IE that cause problems seem to be javascript ?

What happens when you click on a link in IE or OE?

1. You click on a link and an IE window doesn't even open:

http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx.

2. You click on a link and an IE window opens but it doesn't load:

Try re-registering all of the DLLs listed in this KB article...

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click on a Link

3. Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.

When I click on a link, IE and OE freezes up for about 30 seconds but the
new window never opens. I have the computer set up for auto windows updates.

Nothing seems to help. Strange thing is FoxFire works just fine..........but
I just can't get use to using it!

And did #1, 2 or 3 help?

I appreciate you trying to help but neither suggestion helped. Links on web
sites work fine but the links to other pages won't work and javascript links
don't work either.

Checking my computer I realize that the Microsoft Java VM has diapered so I
downloaded the Java (JRE 1.5.0_06-b05) software to use because it has been
impossible to install VM (something about it being included in XP) but that
hasn't helped.

I don't use either app but...

VirusScan => Try disabling Script Blocking:

<QP>
This is designed to prevent malicious Java and VB scripts from running. To
enable or disable script blocking, open up the VirusScan console, right
click On-Access Scanner and select properties. Select the ScriptScan tab and
either check or uncheck the checkbox to enable or disable ScriptScan.
</QP>

ZA => Some "Protections" setting(s) may be interfering. Disable them. NB:
Disabling ZA won't help nor will uninstalling it.

Q: Is the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update?

Thank you so much, that did the trick!
