Hyperlinks won't work using Hierarchy Boxes

I'm making a presentation with hierarchies, and when I make the words within
the boxes into hyperlinks, they do nothing. The mouse turns into a pointing
finger when it hovers over the word like it's supposed to, but when I click
it nothing happens.

Hi Bryan

What are the links linking to? If it's another file, is it opening behind
the current presentation maybe? If you let us know your version, exactly
what you are hoping to achieve and your steps so far I'm sure we'll get you
fixed up :)

I'm trying to link it to other slides within the same powerpoint
presentation. The version is MS Powerpoint 07 from MS Office Professional
Plus. I'm trying to make a hierarchy tree with 6 levels. 6 levels is too
much to put on one slide, so I have a three level hierarchy one one slide,
and I'm trying to design it so if you click one of the lower boxes (level 3),
the presentation then moves to another slide where that box is the top box of
a three level hiearchy (levels 3 to 6).

I got around it by making transparent boxes over the hierarchy boxes I
wanted to link, and hyperlinking those transparent boxes. However, I plan on
having many boxes to hyperlink and it would be a pain to continue doing this,
especially if things moved around.

Yesterday I downloaded the service pack that was available I believe in
12/07, but it didn't do anything. Any other suggestions?

Hi Bryan

Ah yes, SmartArt. You can't hyperlink to bits of a SmartArt object. Rubbish,
isn't it? There are 3 ways you can approach this: put boxes over the objects
(as you have discovered) and use them for linking; create the diagram
yourself using autoshapes & connector lines (which you can always copy &
paste to use whole diagram again); copy entire SmartArt and Paste Special as
an EMF onto a new slide and then ungroup twice which will give you
individual 'bits' (can get really messy....). Which approach is appropriate
very much depends on the project. Someone else may have another, simpler
way.
