If I open any of my Word applications which has a hyperlink within it, the IE
Dial-up dialog box appears and I get an automatic connect to the Internet,
which I don't want.
The hyperlink might be in a e-mail in the inbox of Outlook or on a WorkSheet
in Excel.
How can I stop this automatic linking by Internet Explorer.
If my question should be more properly addressed to the "Set Up" community
perhaps someone more experienced than me could advise as I am a Newbie here.

In IE Tools | Internet Options | Connections select "Never dial a
connection".

You need to change the configuration of IE6 by doing:

Tools, Internet Options, Connections

Now select "Never dial a connection"
