hyperlinks not being shown on web sites

When accessing websites, hyperlinks in the site will be
blank with a red X in the upper lefthand corner. Using
IE6 and SBC Yahoo browsers, having the prob with both.
Running system is Windows 98.
 
Do you run any pop up or security programs that could eliminate the links?
