ALCON,
1.) Is it possible to have hyperlinks in an Access
reports, the hyperlink is a field within a table?

2.) If not, how can I force a report to open in a
word.doc?

Access reports are not intended to be interactive -- that is what forms are
for. You can save an Access report in Rich Text Format, which Word can open,
but I've never tried to pass an intact, working hyperlink that way. You
can't _Open_ the Report in Word, though, unless you save it as RTF (in some
versions, that's shown as "Microsoft Word format", if I recall correctly).

There are often requests to change reports so they can be used
interactively, but experienced users tend to advise that there is already an
object for that purpose, Forms, and to use Forms instead.

Larry,

Thanks for the info. I think its to bad that reports are
not more interactive in Access, I see a lot value added
benifits in interactive reporting. The problem with only
having hyperlinks in forms is the user has to scroll
through forms until they find what they need, very time
consuming, not worth it. I also see a lot of benifits in
allowing a report to be generated in Word and Excell,
opposed to the standard report viewer. I am also
suprised you can not output a report to a Power Point
slide. The problem when you save a report in excel, is
you lose all your conditional formating and programming
created in Access, and you have to redo all the
conditional formating before dumping into powerpoint. I
enjoy using Microsoft Products, however if the end user
had the capability to choose Word, Excell, or Powerpoint
as their end state of a report, the possibilites would be
endless.....
Thanks again.

I'm not sure what you mean about having to scroll through Forms... I have
forms that have various selections, either to display a different record, or
move to a different record if the RecordSource is multirecord. You can do
impressive things with Forms... alas, the CanShrink and CanGrow properties
are limited to Reports.

I agree that it would be superb if you could save to HTML, Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint and retain all the graphics and formatting. I do know that the
Access product team is looking at what users have requested for improving
reporting for future versions of Access.

It is, frankly, the best reporting feature that I have used in many years in
the computer business (but I hasten to add that I have not yet tried SQL
Server Reporting Services, a recently-released products, about which I have
heard impressive feedback). If they improve it, I guess that will make it
_BY FAR_ the best I've used.

You can have hyperlinks in reports if you create a pdf file from the report
using win2pdf. It takes anything that looks like a hyperlink (Http:...) and
changes it to an actual hyperlink.
