Hyperlinks in Indexes

I thought an index would be hyperlinked (in fact, I was
sure that previous versions of Word hyperlinked indexes).
When I generate an index using Word 2002, though, it
contains no links of any kind. Am I crazy or am I just
doing something wrong? Can I create an index with
hyperlinks?

Although this feature has been much requested, no version of Word so far has
had it. TOCs are hyperlinked, but not indexes. ISTR a WordPerfect online
manual that had a hyperlinked index; could you be thinking of WP?

Goodness only knows what I was thinking of as I've never
used WP. Perhaps I was just dreaming in technicolour.
Thanks very much for posting your reply.

I think the WP manual was actually a PDF. Although I have recently acquired
Acrobat, I'm still too clueless about it to be sure whether you can create
hyperlinked indexes in PDF files; in any case, I may be dreaming that the
manual had a hyperlinked index. <g>
