I am trying to link to a website from within my Powerpoint
presentation. I'm getting an error message when creating
the hyperlink that the URL is too long (i.e. over 255
characters). As I have no control over the length of the
URL, what can I do? Is it possible to make the link? If
not, can anyone suggest an easy way to transition between
the Powerpoint presentation, going to the web, and back to
the correct point in my presentation? I'm using
Powerpoint 2000. Any and all help gratefully accepted.
Thanks!

1. If you are going to be navigating this web site, then open Internet
Explorer and browse to the site desired, leave it open then start PowerPoint
and your slide show, when ready to go to the web site, press ALT-TAB, when
done, press ALT-TAB to return to powerPoint.

2. If this is just to show someone the site, open the site, press
ALT-PRINTSCREEN, switch to PowerPoint, make a new blank slide in your
presentation, click "Edit", "Paste special", select "Device independent
bitmap", size it to your slide size. Now yopu have a copy of the site in
PowerPoint and no hyperlinking necessary.

Hope one of these helps. If not, there are other ways.

Instead of running a website by opening a browser, I use the "LiveWeb"
add-in to run the website and browser directly on the slide! Here is the
link to read about and get this FREE add-in.

I give a lot of presentations and I never link to the Web live unless there is no other option because the chances are something will go wrong - the connection, the site's server's etc - so I always save a copy of the relevant site pages into my PowerPoint presentation folder, using a short name that I devise. That way there's never any problem - the hyperlink WILL work
