Hyperlink to a new browser window

Normal hyperlinks re-direct the browser to the new location, but the problem
is that this causes surfers to leave my website. I want to have my
hyperlinks open a new window that the user can close when finished reading
the information, but it leaves the original browser window open to where they
left off on my website. How is this done?
