Hyperlink question

Ihave a photo gallery on a page and some text next to the .jpgs. But I
want to make the text in the gallery a hyperlink to some files. I
can't seem to do this. Can it be done? Thanks in advance
 
Click and drag the mouse over the text you want
to be a hyperlink so the text is highlighted,
then click the hyperlink icon on the toolbar.
