Hyperlink problems when not using "http://"

This problem seems to have started recently...

If I type the web address to a website in my email (e.g.
www.bigbossman.org), Outlook 2003 recognizes it as a URL
and turns it "clickable" for me.

However, if I don't put the "http://" before the web
address it searches for a few minutes and then returns
this error message:

"Cannot find the file '\\www.bigbossman.org'. Make sure
the path or internet address is correct."

If I include the http:// then it connects to the website
just fine!

It's almost like it thinks I'm trying to link to a file
on my own PC or something??? Could it relate to recently
networking my home PCs?

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Brian,

Thanks for responding. No, it's not a typo. That's
exactly what the error message says. Doesn't "\\" have
something to do with finding locations on a network? I
feel like I've seen that before...

Any other ideas??

Yes, UNC's start with "\\", as in "\\server\share" But, I don't know of any
conditions off the top of my head that would cause a program to see
"http://something" as "\\something" without a typo.
