Hyperlink issues, can you help?

I am currently putting together a powerpoint presentation to be sent into
schools and need to ensure that it is easy to use. I have created hyperlinks
for the children to navigate around the presentation but because this is my
first time using them I am finding some issues that I'm struggling to resolve.

1. I've created some set animations, which I wish to occur everytime that
someone enters that slide, however with an 'action' or 'hyperlink' the
animation will only play the first time that slide is accessed and doesn't
reset after you leave that slide. Is it because hyperlinks aren't registered
as an actual mouse click?

2. This is the main one for me... Hope I explain it well. I've used the
hyperlinks as the navigation tools for the kids, however I want to make it so
they can't click on anything else but the hyperlink, (if they click elsewhere
on the screen it moves to the next slide rather than do nothing until the
hyperlink is clicked), is there a way to bullet proof a presentation so only
the hyperlinks can be clicked?

Two questions for you:

1. What version of PowerPoint?
2. What is the age group of your target audience?

If I was creating an interactive presentation for students (any age),
I'd use action buttons rather than hyperlinks. They do the same job,
but tend to be easier for younger children to click.

I don't know why, but I've heard of the following "trick" (though I've
never used it myself). Instead of linking to a specific slide, insert
a blank slide immediately before the slide you want them to go to. Set
the transition on the "before" slide to 0 seconds, and have it go
automatically to the next slide.

1. You need to put your slideshow in kiosk mode to turn off this
behaviour. The exact instructions depend on whether you're using 2003
or 2007 (see question 1 above).

Hi Paul,

we don't send e-mails, you have to read the answers in the newsgroup (I hope
you find them).

1. Animations are shown only, if you access the slide from the beginning of
a presentation, not if you are coming back from the end. If the animations
are important, you can insert a blank slide before the animated one with
automatic transition after 00:00 sec and link to that one.

2. In Slide show - Setup show choose Kiosk mode. That will disable the
keyboard and all mouse clicks except on Hyperlinks and Actions.

To follow up with item 1 of Ute's answer, instead of using a blank slide, I
recommend using a duplicate of the slide. If you use a blank slide, even with
00:00 timing, you'll see the blank slide for a split second. If you use a
duplicate of the slide, the transition from one slide to the next will be
invisible.

Yes, Steve, you're right, it'd depend on the slides. But, since the first
slide only appears for a split second, you can usually create the look of the
beginning of the slide (before the animation) and get a good look. Of course,
I didn't mention that, and I should have. It would certainly involve some
work! I just found that the blank slide looked pretty awful.

Ah, in that case, it should work well. I've always understood "blank" to mean
a completely blank slide.

Hi peter, thanks so much, sorry for late reply, don;t have access to internet
from home. appreciate the help and will look at links you posted, it's for
younger children so the action buttons are far easier :)

Thanks Peter, the kiosk mode works a treat, i'm self taught so would have
never found it myself. Also regarding the animations, I've used the blank
slide method and works well, there is a slight delay for animation to start
but beggers can't be choosers. I did try the macro that was set by the link
but for some reason, the macro part in action settings is disabled, guessing
that's because I only have the home and student edition? Thanks again, Paul
 
In all honesty I would have put a blank slide but soon realised to do a
duplicate, lol, once again thanks for your help, glad I found this forum,
hopefully i'll be able to build up my PP knowledge with the help of experts
like yourself. Paul.
