All,

Can anyone tell me if when Win2Kserver on a Xeon servers with hyper
threading should this be on or off?

Hi Rich,

Similar to Windows XP, with Hyper-Threading enabled you may experience
performance problems with some legacy applications. So it's going to be a
judgment call on your part. You can have it enabled and if you experience
performance problem, then simply disable it in the BIOS.

Should i switch off hyper-threading on Xeon servers when running Win2Ks?
Intel.com advise switching it off but I can't find any corresponding advice
any where else.

That's a judgement call you with advise of your vendor would have to make.
But as my own personal opinion, I would probably follow Intel's advise
because Windows 2000 was released before Hyper-Threading technology became
available. Simply because certain applications may take a performance hit
with it enabled, because the OS can handle it just fine. See the following
