Hi.
I have an XP box connected to an ISP.
I want to connect another (win2000) PC with wireless network.
The XP will serve as the gateway
I don't want a router, just 2 PCs.
What hardware would I need on both PCs?
What software?
TIA

WHY don't you want a router? You'll find it FAR FAR easier with a router,
apart from the fact that if the W2K box wants to access the internet you'll
have to switch on the XP box, whereas with a router you won't....

Thanks.
The XP will always be active and connected to the internet.
I will consider any option, including PC-to-PC connection.
Please advice.
TIA

As Gordon wrote, using a router would be easier. It also would be much
more secure (XP only allows easily-cracked WEP encryption on ad hoc
networks). It also would cost about the same.

However ...

For the system you describe, you need a wireless adapter for each
computer. These could be USB types (works for either laptop or
desktop); PCI cards (desktop only); or PC-cards (laptop only).

What you will want to do is to set up an "ad hoc" network. There are
many places for help. For example:

If by "PC-to-PC" you mean non-wireless, that's the cheapest, most secure
way of sharing the Internet connection. You'll need an Ethernet adapter
for the XP box (i.e., a 2nd one if you are using your Ethernet adapter
to connect to a DSL or cable modem); an Ethernet adapter in the Win2K
box (probably already has one); and a cross-over cable.
Here's another "how-to" for Internet Connection Sharing:
