Huge Pst Files

My pst file for 2007 e-mails is huge-- 2.23 gb. Two files for past years
are 500 mb and 800 mb, respectively. This creates problems for me in doing
automatic backups.

I don't get all that many e-mails, and can't understand why the files are
so large. Is it normal for the pst files to be that large, or are my files
corrupted?

The reason they are so large is most likely due to the attachments in
your emails. When viewing your PST files in outlook, sort by size so
you can see which messages have the largest attachments, and perhaps
you could save them elsewhere.

Your emails will become corrupt if you try to manage a PST file around
1.7GB or larger. This will cause the file to become non-responsive,
and could cause issues when trying to auto-archive to that PST.
Remember that these are all being stored in one file. It's always
better to try and split them into maximum 1 gig files.

I would also suggest that you compact your file by right clicking on
"personal folder", got to properties, advanced, compact now
