Hi, I have been working on a product in Power-point non-stop for 50 hours, i
have been saving it al the way through. I decided to re-start the computer
and give it a break, when i try and open it again it tells me

- Power point cannot open the file......the file format or file extension is
not valid. Varify that the file has not been corrupted (HOW??) and that the
file extension matches the format of the file -

the file has .pptx at the end of it should i change this? Please help as i
have a deadline on monday!

It sounds like you might have been saving the original file in a different
drive...?

Anyway, in PowerPoint, take the steps to open a file (File > Open). In the
Open dialog box, on the left side, you'll find a folder named, Recent
Documents. See if this helps...

Ouch. As the extension is *.pptx I am assuming you are using PPT 07. (Tell
us if that is not true.)

Is the file located on your local hard drive? If so, what is its path?

Good . Better to keep changing the filename as you go along

e.g.
mypres-v01
mypres-v02

ever time you update something major add the next version number - so if
powerpoint or your pc decides to get evil - you don't lose everything.
I decided to re-start the computer
Good too

If the extension is pptx that mean powerpoint 2007.

Just want to point out that this:

is not the same as autosaving. This is a save mechanism that PPT uses to
recover files if it crashes, but as far as I know, it doesn't help if you
close PPT without saving your file, for example. To reiterate, the article
itself says, "The AutoRecover and AutoSave features are not a substitute for
regularly saving your work by clicking Save."

I don't know why any Office application uses the term "autosave," anyway,
since it's not doing that at all.
