Hi, ive recently swithced over to a pc.

I have a huge annoying problem with pop-ups, i have the
google toolbar working but even when im not browsing the
net i get pop ups right on my desk top, its not a huge
problem but it just gets me sooo angry because my mac
never ever did that.

any help would be greatly appreciated, replies to my e-
mail are also welcome.

Thanks

Matt, we could probably write a book on various pop-ups / ad-ware and
spy-ware, and it would need updating about every week to stay current.

Yes it is a PITA however for some reason I have never had what you might
call "Typical" infestations so I think "Luck" has something to do with it.

Understand you're in the middle of a learning curve right now, so here's a
bit more learning in the form of links below, they will help but allow time.

The ActiveX settings make a big difference where older spyware is concerned
however the MS Java virtual machine has a bug which the spyware writers have
adopted too. Exploiting a genuine bug is, I think, an indication of the
level these people work at.

What I would do in your case is -

Change ActiveX settings first
Install the SUN Java Virtual Machine

That way you won't get reinfected easily next time...

Then work through the parasite removers

Hi Matt,

The other answers are valid for Windows. But did I understand well that you
are on a Mac? We do Windows IE here...

Kind regards

Hi Alan,

Yes, we did. Did you see the "because my mac never ever did that" bit in the
original message?"
