Steve

The following line shows in the URL whenever I try to
access my secure sites: "res://C:\WINDOWS\System32
\shdoclc.dll\nvacancl.htm#https://[name of site]." Have
deleted shdoclc.dll and installed fresh from internet;
downloaded and installed AdAware; spent over an hour with
laptop manufacturer, verifying/changing internet options.
Nothing is making a difference. What is going on and can
someone help? At this point, am quite desparate!

Hi Steve,

I found an article addressing your problem in the MKSB... but it says little
more than turn your head and cough:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=243712 (it actually says to restart IE.)

Give this a shot... while I have not encountered your specific problem,
before, the following procedure has safely resolved an amazing array of
similar problems...

In IE:
1) Click Tools, then Internet Options
2) In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files
3) Then, still in that section, click Settings, and click View Objects
4) Delete any items listed that do NOT have Installed, under the STATUS
column (items such that say damaged, or unknown)
5) Close the window, OK your way out of the others, and restart IE.

Then try your secure site.

Good luck,
-Lawrence
