Can someone please point me in the right direction.

All of a sudden i am unable to display any secure web sites (https). Just
says "the page cannot be displayed".

I have my laptop next to my desktop and have checked all settings under
internet options. Both are the same but i can see pages on laptop, just not
desktop.

Desktop is running windows xp home, ie 6.0.2800. Laptop runs xp pro but
same ie version.

This just happened the last week. I have tried to use system restore to go
back as far as a week, at a point where i know i was able to view these
pages, and no luck.

Any ideas? Again, this only happens on secure sites (https).

Thanks.

Chris

Thanks frank. I ended up finding one of the articles you mentioned below
(#813444). After trying many of the suggestions, it turned out to be
something related to my norton internet security and/or anti-virus.
Reinstalled and everything seems to be fine.

The weird thing is that i recently installed some software for my girlfriend
and her college music course. The software was titled "norton listening
guides". It seems to be a little more than a coincidence that my problem
started around the same time.

Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't let anything from Norton or McAfee into the building.

Ok, i was mistaken. It fixed it under my logon id but all other logons
still cannot access secure sites. Even if i create a new user account (with
admin rights) it still doesn't work.

Interesting thing is that every other account has an instance of windows
explorer automatically open up and the folder displayed is the norton
listening guide that i previously installed. I don't know if these things
are related but i have to guess that the explorer window opening up
automatically has something to do with it since it no longer happens on my
logon.

I don't see anything in the startup folder. What would i look for in
msconfig??

I guess i can uninstall the norton listening guides but my gf will need them
eventually.

Any thoughts??

I'm afraid I'm not smart enough about WinXP to offer more advice.

Well, after uninstalling the Norton Listening Guides everything seems to be
back to normal. That had to be the problem b/c it started right around the
same time i installed it/them.

Not sure what i'll do. I need to reinstall so hopefully i'll figure
something out.

Thanks for the help though.

There are newsgroups on the Symantec site, you might try one of them.
