I cannot access websites by just entering the domain name. ie cnn.com.
I first have to type in http:// then the name of the website I have
gone to the registry and made sure that the HTTP:// is the default any
ideas? I can also access my favorites by clicking on them. Thanks
Howtard

I also have this problem and I wanted to add some specifics about my
environment. I'm running Windows XP Pro and Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180
etc etc etc.

If I type in just "www.cnn.com" and press Enter or click "Go", nothing seems
to happen. If I type in "http://www.cnn.com", it works fine. I have dumped my
cookies and temp files, cleared my browsing history, and restored all my
setting to the defaults. My favorites and default home page work fine. Any
help woiuld be appreciated.

Come to think of it, I believe that's when this started happening to me too -
right after the last critical update.

Same problem here, is Microsoft looking at the problem or what?
Hopefully Microsoft is comming with an "update" for the update!!!!

IT WORKS..!! So far, it works......hmmmmm, I´m more carefull using updates
next time. In the future I´m first looking here in this forum before
updating!!

Thanks, SteveInTx

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.1 to reflect the issues in KB918165 and now points
to the KB918165.

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

I have run the fix and validated that the edits were made. Rebooted twice
and still have the same issue. In fact, I have a PC at home for my kid
(older machine running XP Home that has the same issue- and has for months.
Long before the last update. anyone seen anything else that will cause this?
