Hi,
I had a working installation of IE6 on Windows NT
Workstation (with latest updates). But after an
un-install of 'Windows Web Application Stress Tool',
IE does not display any web pages.
This is what I observed:
1. ping/ftp/telnet etc. works fine
2. windows network neigbourhood works fine
3. I can open a local html file in IE and displays
contents
4. I can open an ftp site in IE it works fine
5. When attempting an http:// connection, the
standard 'page cannot be displayed' message
shows up.
6. I tried a telnet into www.microsoft.com and
connected on port 80 and did a 'GET /' and
I could see the result HTML.
From all these my conclusion is that there is a
problem in a DLL that is used to handle HTTP
protocol. There are 3 more facts supporting this
theory:
1. From FrontPage I can't import a Site
2. From OutlookExpress I can't acess hotmail
mail account via http
3. ie6setup.exe can't connect to
http://www.microsoft.com
I've since re-installed 'Windows Web Application
Stress Tool' hoping that whatever DLL the
un-install removed is put back - but the problem
persists. I can't run ie6setup.exe any more
because that requires an HTTP connection as well.
1. Is there a way I can fix this HTTP connection
issue? A specific DLL or DLLs that I can copy
over my windows installation that will fix
this.
2. Can I download the whole ie6 executables and
do a local installation?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Pradeep
