html wont open, icon has changed on desk top

when I write a html page in notepad and try and save it on my desktop its not
the usaul icon and it wont open as a web page. it askes me what I want to
view the file on and recommends notepad. very frustrating. Can anyone help?

Try opening Internet Explorer first. Then use File > Open and select the
saved html file.
