Watchman

I'm running Win XP home version. On right clicking in a windows folder
you get a list of commands of which "New" is one. Is there anyway to add

HTML files to that list? I've tried TweakUI. It says it's done it but
when I right click, the option of making new HTML files isn't there. Is
there another way to add to the "New" option?
Thank you for your time.

Watchman :)

Hmmm

I have often wanted to open a new file in which to write HTML, but I get the
feeling that an .html extension is not one that can be specified.

So I just open a Text Document and then save it as whatever.html.

Thanks, David

Unfortunately, the attachment was rejected by OE

Could you put the text of the .reg file in a reply, please

I had to go delete it so I exported it again
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.html\ShellNew]
"NullFile"=""

David,
Thanks for retrieving the text in the file.

In reply to your previous question,
Yes, I could reset Security, but I have it set to "Don't open attachments
that could be a risk."
To reset it as a once-off is O.K., but is it safe to leave it that way? (A
genuine question, not rhetorical)

If you trust yourself not to click attachments that look suss. I trust myself. If in doubt I save to disk and look at it in notepad.

David,

I forgot to say thanks.

This entry does create a file with .html extension as expected.

Then something is wrong in your file associations for HTML. Type in Start,
Run:

cmd /c assoc .htm=htmlfile
regsvr32 /i mshtml
regsvr32 /i shdocvw

Apply David's REG fix.
