HTML Filtering in Word 2003

Microsoft provides a great utility for filtering the HTML documents that Word 2000 produces. This utility provides a comprehensive set of options that allows us to strip out the CSS but retain the class attributes within the body of the document.

Unfortunately, some of our users have upgraded to Word 2003 and the filtering utility won't work on their systems. They can't even install it.

When I looked at the HTML filtering feature in Word 2003, I couldn't find the same rich set of options that the filtering utility provides. Does anyone know whether I can find options such as "Remove non-essential Meta Tags," and "Remove all Style elements" somewhere in Word 2003?

Hi =?Utf-8?B?SkxlZQ==?=,

Some options can be found under Tools/Options/General/Web options. But I
think you should still be able to use the tool, as well. I haven't tried
it with Office 2003, but it was possible for Office 2002, just not the
way you might have tried it. Here are some notes from our German book
that might help.

1. In order to actually install MSFilter.exe Office 2000 must be
installed on the system.

2. You don't need to INSTALL it to actually use it; it doesn't require
any entries in the Registry to function properly. Just copy the *.exe
file to where ever you want to have it and make a shortcut for it in the
START folder.

3. If you want to use the BATCH capabilities, the *.exe has to be in a
folder that's listed in the Windows PATH variable. You could put it in
the same folder with winword.exe, for example.

4. MSFilter.dot should be placed in the STARTUP folder with other Word
"addin" templates (or can be added from any folder using Tools/Templates
and Addins)
