I have just set up a P4P800 for my son with a P4 2.6 GHz 800MHz FSB CPU and
was curious what the opinion was on HT vs no HT for gaming. I installed 1
GB of DDR 400 RAM as dual channel (2x512 MB) and a Nvidia FX 5900. I don't
intend to overclock.

There's no benefit in turning HT off ever.

Thanks for the input; I had overheard someone at the store indicate that
without HT might be more stable. I had been having some hangups with the
machine and turned HT off. Did not have anymore hangups but I don't know if
related or not. CPU Temperature seems up (20 deg F) with HT off which seemed
odd. I will turn HT back on and see if stable (hard to tell when son is
gaming how much is machine and how much is son!)

No it won't - if HT on is unstable, then there's something screwed up with
your system configuration.

You should be able to leave HT on, without it being a problem for games.
Since most (all?) games are not coded to be multi-threaded HT on will
not help their performance.

I've had HT on ever since I put together my P4p800 Deluxe with a P4 2.4
GHz CPU. It has never caused a problem with games or other applications
on my system. But it does allow me to render DVD video in the background
while I use the system for web browsing, email, etc. with no apparent
slow down.
