This is an obscure problem I cant solve. An HPIIP+ no longer prints
graphics eg PDF files etc, but it used to. Now it just prints a page
with some large blocks and bars on it. If I swap another IIP+ for
it on the same computer, that one prints graphics fine. I tried
resetting it, even resetting the NVRAM, no help. Any suggestions for
treatment of this would be appreciated. Thank you. RD2

My guess is it is either the Postscript cartridge (if fitted) or bad memory.
Bad memory usually gives an error message but not in every case.
If both printers have a postscript cartridge installed, try swapping them.
If they both have additional memory installed try swapping those also.
The only other thing that may have happened is that the size of the files you
are printing has increased and one of the printers has more memory installed
than the other.
If none of the above fix the problem then I suspect the formatter has failed.
You can swap formatters between printers to prove this. You may need the service
manual to achieve this and you can download the 15 parts of this manual from

Look on this page for HP LaserJet Classics II_III.part01.rar to HP LaserJet

IIRC the basic IIP model only had .5 meg of memory. But then you would
expect it to print part of a page, then pressing alt+continue it would
print the next memory's worth of page on a second sheet. Because of
that I suspect its more likely to be bad memory rather than
insufficient. But what happens if you print small documents to it, do
they print successfully? eg: Does it work if you just send a small text
file straight to lpt1 via dos?
