HP970 won't print blue. Changed Color Cartridge. No Help.

I've had this HP970 for a few years with no problems.

A few weeks I notice my color printouts were all reddish-yellowish with no blue.

Black text was fine.

I figured the Color cartridge was out of Blue, so yesterday I finally got around to getting a new color cartridge and swapped it
out.

The printer ran the alignment page with no problems, except there is still no blue.

And no blue on my printouts, either.

I removed the cartridge and check the pins on the cartridge holder to see if any were bent or missing.

All looked good. I even carefully wipe the pin area with a soft cloth.

Still nothing.

I find it hard to believe that I bought two cartridges years apart with identical problems.

Anyone have any ideas?
 
Try a hardware reset, the instructions are on HP's site somewhere. Other
than that it may be a problem with the ribbon cable to the head or the
electronics have fried.

First try printing a diagnostic self test as shown at the following:

Assuming you have no cyan in this print the problem most likely lies with the
cartridge, not the printer. The way the electronics are laid out would require
many separate failures in several different areas to take out all of cyan; the
chances of this are very small.

Most likely your new cartridge is old stock. If you still have the box check
the "install by date" on the cartridge. Cartridges that are very old may have
a color missing. Alternately check the warranty date on the cartridge as shown
at:

If the cartridge is beyond the two year warranty period your problem will
almost certainly be solved by replacing it with a fresh cartridge. You can
confirm the cartridge is at fault by blotting the nozzles on a soft damp
lint-free cloth. You will likely only see a strip of yellow and magenta and no
cyan, which would confirm the cartridge as the issue.

If the cartridge is still in its warranty period then contact HP or your dealer
for a replacement.

When buying cartridges look for the "install by" date on the cartridge. I
would look for a cartridge with at least six months remaining before the
"install by" date. This would still have a year of remaining warranty. When
storing cartridges for extended times avoid temperature extremes and store the
cartridge standing upright as it would hand on a store display.
