Hi all,
I usually purchase compatable cartridges for my HP959c printer. They work fine
but I always struggle to get the printer to understand that I have just fitted
a full cartridge. The best method to date is to run a magnet over the
cartridge chip. The printer then tells me that the ink is low but will work
okay. I believe there is a way of using sticky tape to cover a series of
contacts on the cartridge to 'fool' the printer. Any help much appreciated.
Incidentally, I get mine from MX2. I've no connection with them but have found
them excellent for price and quality on ink cartridges and paper.
Thanks, Dave

Magnet over the cartridge chip???? HP's, or at least the regular
home/office models, do not use chips. Each cartridge has a simple ID code
that the printer remembers (the current and the previous for each
cartridge slot.) I have no idea how a magnet would do anything. The code
isn't a real chip, but probably a semi-random connection of several
contacts on the cartridge.

Thanks for the help on this one. I've noted the details from the web site and
will try it next time I change the cartridge. Incidentally, I've no idea why
the magnet trick works either if there is no chip! Perhaps I just have magical
powers - or perhaps not eh?
